Bucks County Child Abuse Counseling

Clinically Credentialed Care for Young People & Families

When a child or teen has experienced abuse, getting structured, professional support quickly matters. Hope Springs Behavioral Health is a Joint Commission-accredited, dually licensed outpatient behavioral health center serving the greater Bucks County area. Our care team includes board-certified psychiatrists who work alongside licensed therapists and trained clinicians to deliver coordinated treatment built around each young person’s individual history and needs.

We’re licensed by both the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services and the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP). Those credentials aren’t just administrative markers. They represent independent verification of the clinical standards we hold ourselves to every day.

If your child needs support after an abusive experience, our team is here to help. Call us at (215) 491-9900. We respond to all inquiries within 24 hours.

Abuse Counseling as Part of an Intensive Outpatient Program

Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) is designed for young people who need more structured support than weekly outpatient therapy provides but don’t need residential placement. Participants live at home and can continue attending school. This stability matters during recovery.

The IOP integrates individual therapy, group sessions, and family counseling as core components, not optional add-ons. A typical program runs four to six weeks, with multiple sessions per week lasting several hours each, though individual duration varies based on clinical progress. Psychiatric services are available within the program for those who may benefit from medication management or a diagnostic evaluation.

Evidence-based approaches for child and adolescent trauma, such as trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), which helps young people process traumatic memories while building coping skills, are recognized as best practices in this area of care. Our clinicians draw on the current evidence base to inform how treatment is structured. Skills developed through IOP, including emotional regulation and distress tolerance, are intended to carry over into daily life well after sessions end.

What Sets Our Program Apart for Levittown Families

Recovery from abuse isn’t linear, and no two young people respond the same way. Patients at Hope Springs Behavioral Health will receive a treatment plan developed around their specific history, clinical needs, and goals. Our clinicians reassess and adjust strategies as progress is made, so care constantly evolves and supports our patients' progress.

Coordination is built into how we work. Our board-certified psychiatrists don’t operate in separate silos from our therapists. They collaborate, so the clinical picture stays complete and treatment decisions are grounded in the full context of a child’s care.

We serve individuals from all backgrounds, and we’re committed to a welcoming environment where every young person and family member can engage openly without fear of judgment.

The IOP is covered by insurance, and our team works directly with families to navigate benefits. Sliding-scale fee options are also available for those who qualify.

What Types of Abuse Does Our Program Address?

Parents sometimes wonder whether what their child experienced calls for professional treatment. Any child showing signs of trauma, behavioral changes, or emotional distress following abuse or suspected abuse warrants a clinical evaluation.

Our program supports recovery from a range of abuse experiences:

  • Physical abuse: Intentional harm that may present as unexplained injuries, fearfulness, or withdrawal
  • Emotional abuse: Patterns of rejection, humiliation, or manipulation affecting self-esteem and emotional regulation
  • Sexual abuse: Inappropriate sexual contact or exploitation, often presenting as behavioral changes or withdrawal
  • Neglect: Failure to meet basic needs for food, shelter, education, or medical care, sometimes resulting in developmental delays
  • Medical abuse: When a caregiver fabricates or induces illness (sometimes called factitious disorder imposed on another), leading to unnecessary procedures and lasting anxiety

Complex trauma, which occurs when abuse is ongoing or takes multiple forms, can affect brain development, attachment patterns, and long-term mental health. Our program is structured to address these layered effects, not just the immediate event.

Family Therapy as Part of Recovery

Family involvement strengthens treatment outcomes. That's why family therapy is a standard component of our IOP. When caregivers understand trauma responses and have tools to support their child at home, the home environment becomes part of the therapeutic process. Beyond family therapy, children in our IOP may also participate in group and individual therapy, and they'll have access to psychiatric services. Additionally, we offer marriage counseling for couples navigating the strain that trauma can place on a relationship.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Insurance Cover Child Abuse Counseling at Hope Springs Behavioral Health?

Yes, insurance does generally cover child abuse counseling. If you have questions about coverage, don't hesitate to contact us.

How Do I Know if My Child Needs an IOP Versus Regular Therapy?

If your child is experiencing significant behavioral changes, emotional dysregulation, or distress that weekly outpatient sessions aren’t adequately addressing, an IOP may be the right fit.

The IOP doesn’t require prior inpatient treatment. It can serve as a primary level of care when more structured support is needed. A clinical assessment at intake can help determine the appropriate level.

What Happens During the First Appointment?

The first appointment is an intake assessment. Our clinicians will take the time to understand your child’s history, current symptoms, and what the family has already experienced. A treatment plan is developed from there. Nothing is predetermined before we’ve heard from you.

Does My Child Have to Leave School to Participate?

No. Our IOP is structured so that teens can continue attending school while participating in treatment. Maintaining that routine is part of what makes the intensive outpatient model effective for young people.
