Outpatient Addiction Treatment for Teens and Adults in Bucks County

Treating Addiction Issues in Our Intensive Outpatient Program Clients

Addiction rarely shows up alone. More often, it's tangled up with anxiety, depression, trauma, or another mental health condition, each one feeding the other in ways that can feel impossible to untangle on your own.

At Hope Springs Behavioral Health, we understand that lasting recovery means treating the whole person, not just the symptom that's easiest to see. That's why our outpatient addiction treatment is offered exclusively as part of our intensive outpatient program (IOP), a comprehensive approach that addresses substance use as it relates to an underlying mental health diagnosis. We’re a family-owned outpatient treatment center with dual licensure from the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services and the Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP), and accreditation from The Joint Commission.

If you or someone you love is navigating addiction alongside a co-occurring mental health condition, you don't have to sort out which problem to treat first. Our team is here to help you address it all, together, in one coordinated plan of care.

Understanding Co-Occurring Disorders

When a mental health condition and a substance use issue occur at the same time, they're known as co-occurring disorders, and treating one without the other rarely leads to lasting relief. Someone managing unresolved depression, for example, may turn to alcohol or another substance as a way of coping, which can then make the underlying depression harder to treat. Hope Springs Behavioral Health recognizes addiction as a secondary diagnosis that develops alongside a primary mental health condition, and we treat it within that context rather than as an isolated issue.

This is why addiction treatment isn't offered as a standalone service in our practice. Instead, it's woven into the broader, more comprehensive care our IOP provides, ensuring that the root causes contributing to substance use are identified and addressed alongside the substance use itself. This integrated approach gives clients a more complete path toward healing, rather than a partial one.

What to Expect from Our Intensive Outpatient Program

Our IOP is a structured, immersive treatment experience designed for clients who need more support than traditional weekly therapy but don't require inpatient care. Clients attend sessions multiple times per week while continuing to live at home, so work, school, and family responsibilities don't have to stop during treatment.  Because addiction support is built directly into this program, clients work with our team on their mental health and any co-occurring substance use concerns side by side, guided by one cohesive treatment plan.

Our approach to co-occurring care includes:

  • Comprehensive assessments. Every program begins with a thorough intake evaluation to understand how mental health and any substance use concerns are connected, so that our treatment plans reflect the full picture from day one.
  • Integrated therapy sessions. Rather than separating "addiction treatment" from "mental health treatment," our clinicians address both together through individual and group therapy sessions, helping clients understand the connection between the two.
  • Tailored programs for both teens and adults. Teen IOP uses age-appropriate clinical approaches that reflect the developmental realities of adolescence, and the schedule is structured to let teens continue attending school while receiving treatment. Adult IOP is designed around the clinical and life circumstances particular to adults.
  • Board-certified support. Our care team includes board-certified psychiatrists who collaborate directly with licensed therapists and trained clinicians on every case. That coordination matters most when addiction and a co-occurring mental health condition are present at the same time.
  • Family therapy and marriage counseling. Recovery doesn't happen in isolation. Family therapy is standard in our IOP because the relationships around a client are part of the clinical picture. We also offer marriage counseling as an additional service, recognizing that relational dynamics and addiction often intersect. Strengthening a client's support network is part of the work, not something that happens after the program ends.
  • Care that evolves as you do. As progress is made, our clinicians reassess and adjust strategies so that care evolves alongside each person rather than staying fixed at intake.

Hope Springs Behavioral Health serves individuals from all backgrounds. Our commitment to a setting that honors diversity, promotes dignity, and encourages open expression without fear of judgment isn't a policy statement. It shapes how our staff works with every client from the first call forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Receive Addiction Treatment Without Joining the IOP?

Addiction support at Hope Springs Behavioral Health is only available as a component of our intensive outpatient program, and is addressed when it presents as a secondary diagnosis alongside a primary mental health condition.

Do I Have to Come to a Physical Location for Treatment?

While select physician appointments may occasionally be available through virtual teledoc visits, the core of our IOP, including therapy and treatment sessions, takes place in person at our office.

Is Family Therapy Available for Younger Children?

Our services, including family therapy, are available for clients aged 12 and older. We're unable to accommodate children younger than 12 at this time.

Do You Take My Insurance?

Hope Springs Behavioral Health accepts most commercial insurance plans and is now accepting Bucks County Medicaid/HealthChoices, which reduces the financial barrier for residents who don't carry commercial coverage. Our team works with individuals and families to navigate insurance benefits and clarify out-of-pocket costs before treatment begins. Sliding-scale fee options are also available for those who qualify. Cost concerns are real, and we don't want them to be the reason someone doesn't reach out.

If you or a loved one is struggling with addiction as a side effect of deeper mental health issues, call Hope Springs Behavioral Health at (215) 491-9900 to see how our IOP can help.
